ROOTED IN "PATIENCE"
Everyone I know hates waiting in line. What was the worst line you ever had to wait in?
REFLECTING ON THE SERMON
Did Pastor Chris say anything that spoke to you during the sermon?
Where you challenged by anything?
What did you learn about patience that you previously did not know?
GOING DEEPER IN THE SCRIPTURE
Read Exodus 34:6-7
When God reveals himself to Moses he declares his name and character to him. What are the similarities between this list and the characteristics we are called to “put on” in Colossians 3:12? How have you seen the patience (slow to anger) of God revealed in your life? (Compare 1 Tim 1:16)
Read Colossians 3:12-14
As Paul commands us to put on the characteristics of verse 12, he says the outcome of that will be that we will do two things: bear(endure) with each other, and forgive one another. How has God enabled you to deal with difficult people and forgive others?
MAKE IT PERSONAL
If what you dwell on eventually dwells in you, and what dwells in you will eventually dwell on you, what are the things that you tend to dwell on? In other words if your thoughts become your words, and your words become your deeds, how can we learn to redirect direct our thoughts towards the things God is calling us to direct them on?
When the Bible talks about patience it can do so in two spheres, first in terms of relationships with other people (Eph. 4:2), and secondly in terms of suffering (Jam. 5:9-11). How do you usually think of patience? What area (if any) do you tend to struggle with?
As we heard in the sermon peace and patience are intimately related (i.e. when our peace is up, our patience is up). What are the things that disrupt your peace, and/or cause you to lose patience? What is God’s prescription for those moments?
LIVE IT OUT! ACT IT OUT!
Paul challenges us to put on a new life in Christ, and not be marked out by our old life. In fact we are called to throw off and rid ourselves of that life, so that we can manifest the life of Christ in us. This week, take inventory of your life, and ask God to help you to throw off those things you have been holding onto so you can put on the life Jesus has for us.
Take time to share prayer requests with one another pray for your needs.
