GOING DEEPER IN THE SCRIPTURE
Read Matthew 22:34-40
As Jesus is being confronted with the Pharisees regarding the greatest commandment in the Law, he gives two answers. The first answer comes from Deut 6:4-5, and the second from Lev. 19:18.
What does it mean for us to love the Lord our God with our heart, soul, mind and strength?
When Jesus talks about loving our neighbor in Luke’s Gospel, he tells a parable about the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37)? Who is our neighbor today and how can we love them?
Read 1 Corinthians 13 (If you want to go deeper)
Paul tells us, of the three things that will remain for all time: faith, hope and love, love is the greatest. God is ultimately love (1 John 4:8) and the perfect embodiment of love in Christ (John 3:16).
How do we see Jesus fulfilling Paul’s description of love?
How does love relate to the other fruit of the Spirit?
MAKE IT PERSONAL
What does the world say and think about love and what does the Bible say about love?
When was the first time that you realized how much God loved you?
If the love of God is meant to flow through us, what are some of the common areas in your life where God’s love gets jammed up? (What are those barriers we erect?)
LIVE IT OUT! ACT IT OUT!
The greatest display of love is that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom 5:8). He forgave us of our sins and brought us into a relationship with him.
Who do I need to forgive in my life, so the love of God can flow through me? If you can not think of someone, pray that God would give you an opportunity to see your neighbor and be the expression of God’s love for them.
Take time to share prayer requests with one another pray for your needs.
