GOING DEEPER IN THE SCRIPTURE
READ 1 PETER 4:7-11
For Peter the Christian community is to be a Gifted community. Yet, before he talks about Spiritual gifts, he like the apostle Paul frames it in the context of love. Love first towards, “one another” and love towards the stranger (Hospitality has the sense here of love towards strangers). How have you experienced the love of God in the church? Has God ever used you to express his love towards another?
In verse 11, Peter calls the church to use their Spiritual Gifts to speak and act as if God is working through them. Where else in the Scriptures do you find people saying and doing things in the Spirit of God?
The end results of us using our Spiritual Gifts for Peter is, “so that in all things God may be glorified.” In what ways can the Spiritual Gifts be misused (Acts 8:18-24)? How do the gifts bring glory to God when they are used correctly?
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Have you been baptized in the Holy Spirit? Take time to share your experience and what that has meant to your Christian walk.
What areas in the church do you currently serve in? (If people in your group are not currently serving in any area, encourage the them to get plugged in somewhere.) Where have you seen the power of the Holy Spirit help you to serve in ways that you could not accomplish on your own?
LIVE IT OUT! ACT IT OUT!
Do you know your spiritual gifts? Spend time in prayer this week asking the Holy Spirit to reveal His gifts to you. Remain sensitive to the promptings on the Holy Spirit. Consider journaling your journey as you are learning to hear His voice and respond.
If someone in your group has not been baptized in the Holy Spirit, take time to pray with them to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Take time to share prayer requests with one another pray for your needs.
